Developing a roadmap for open data
Hi,
I appreciate the work the UK government has done in this area and the potential seen for open data.
What I've seen lacking, in this document and in the work done by other governments, is a clear roadmap of where the open data road takes us and how governments will walk this road in a cost-effective and measured way.
I've developed a model based on my experience with open data to aid in this, which has been referenced by governments in the Asia-Pacific region.
It could be a useful starting point to define the path for the UK government as well.
You can find the roadmap - which maps 5 generations for open data sites - in my blog at: http://egovau.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/mapping-open-data-site-generations.html
I hope it proves useful.
Cheers,Craig

Publicly funded research data
'We must also consider how we open up publicly funded research data in a way that maximises public benefit' (page 27).It is essential that the UK leads the world in open access to publically funded research. This research is for everyone, owned by everyone and paid for by taxes. It is important that the raw data is shared and linked (URIs) and that future budgets allow for any costs associated with improved and open access. This wealth of data will be a wonderful inheritance for the future.
