Abstract

This dataset contains the geographical extents of aggregate licenses issued by either the Marine and Fisheries Agency (MFA) or its successor the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) up until 5th October 2012. The process of marine aggregate extraction occurs offshore to extract aggregate from the seabed.

Prior to 6th April 2011, aggregate extraction licenses were issued by the MMO under the Coast Protection Act (CPA). In 2012 the MMO commissioned a project to extract and plot the spatial information relating to aggregate extraction licenses issued up to October 2012. Information was extracted from MMO licensing records and converted to GIS format.
