Major Railway Noise Contours Lnight Round 1
Data indicating the level of noise according to the strategic noise mapping of major rail sources within areas with a population of at least 250,000 people (agglomerations) and along Network Rail routes with more than 60,000 train passages per year. Lnight indicates night time annual average noise level results in dB, where night is defined as 2300 - 0700. This data is a product of the strategic noise mapping analysis undertaken to meet the requirements of the Environmental Noise Directive (Directive 2002/49/EC).

Noise level information has been determined by strategic noise mapping using national calculation methods and various input information. The calculations produced noise level results on a 10m grid at a receptor height of 4m above ground, as required by the Environmental Noise Directive and associated Regulations. The data presented is modelled data, no actual noise measurements have been made in the production of these strategic maps. Network Rail Scotland provided Geographical Route Centrelines which were georectified and updated according to rail TIPLOCs (Timing Point Locations), Bridge Points, track IDs and Tunnels in GIS. The output noise raster grid was processed in ArcGIS to create noise levels based on Lnight classes.
