"Intertidal Eelgrass (Zostera sp.) beds have been identified as a key sub-feature of the Wash and North Norfolk Coast Marine SAC. The principal objective of this approach was to ensure there should be no decrease in their extent from an established baseline. The baseline survey of the Zostera populations along the North Norfolk Coast was carried out in 1997 and this present contract was to carry out a repeat survey of all intertidal eelgrass populations on the North Norfolk Coast and compare their extent and distribution with that found in 1997. All sites were searched by walking the entire area by one or two individuals. A zig-zag route was taken through the study area with each pass or transect being within 10 metres of the previous one. At large sites like West Sands Creek, High Sand Creek and Thornham Harbour the transects were 25 metres apart. All fieldwork was undertaken during August 2002."
