Southwark cycle parking
Cycle parking provisions within the London Borough of Southwark
The data holds point locations of cycle parking provision within the London Borough of Southwark including stands, lockers and hangars. For each parking provision there is information on the location, the type (stand, locker or hangar), the model/brand/design, information on the level of surveillance (if poor) and the number of available facilities and usable spaces for each location (for example a Sheffield stand facility has typically two usable spaces but in some locations may only have one). Comments on whether quality control was done and the source of the data are included. Contains Eastings and Northings in British National Grid projection. Data that was not controlled may contain some positional errors of 7m or so. In addition there may be a small number of superfluous records or missing records. Please use the contact details (envelope icon above) to inform Southwark Council if you come across errors. More information on how the data was created is available in the lineage statement in additional link below "Source GEMINI2 record (formatted)". It is expected to be updated on an annual basis. The data could be useful for tools or apps used by cyclists.

The majority of cycle parking provision were plotted by external consultants who surveyed facilities on-site producing data in June 2015 based on previous years' survey data and plotted over coarse background mapping (1:30 000). In addition, the Road Safety team in Southwark Council Highways used internal knowledge to plot additional cycle lockers and hangars over Sept 2015 OS MasterMap base maps (1:1250 scale). The Public Realm (Highways) GIS Officer performed desktop quality control of the position of the points using OS MasterMap base mapping and the latest Google StreetView photos (April 2015). Points were intersected with OS MasterMap buildings to identify potential errors. In addition some errors were picked up ad-hoc. Approximately 300 records were assessed. Each record was analysed and corrected if needed using OS MasterMap basemapping. A note was added to indicate if it had been assessed or if a site visit was needed due to lack of Google StreetView image. Some additional facilities were added based on Google StreetView (four records). Facilities not fit for use and needing replacement were removed from the data (11 records). The data source for all records, including changes and additions, was noted. It is estimated that there are some potential positional accuracy issues in the remaining data (the location could be 7m out for example). There could also be omissions and superfluous records. In regards to attributes, a surveillance rating was added based on surveyor comments. The "Date last updated field" and the "QC Comment" field indicates the date of the source data as well as dates that data was checked or corrected by the LBS Public Realm (Highways) GIS Officer.
