Abstract

Information about average flows and water quality for known mine water discharges from abandoned metal mines in England. Adapted and updated from "Prioritisation of abandoned non-coal mine impacts on the environment: The national picture." published by the Environment Agency in 2012 (available from gov.uk). Data are known to be incomplete. Blank values mean less than detection limit or not measured. Data supplied are average values for flows (l/s), pH, metal concentrations (mg/l) and metal flux (kg/yr). Metals/metalloids included: Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Nickel (Ni), Lead (Pb), Zinc (Zn). Lineage

The dataset was created from various sources including Environment Agency monitoring and records from universities (e.g. published papers, theses). They are average values recorded. In reality, the flows and metal concentrations in mine water discharges vary on a daily basis.
