Lineage

MMO Marine Areas have been created in order to manage MMO delivery at the coast, taking into account unique environmental, social and economic needs. Each marine area has a main coastal hub office, strategically located based on the nature and importance of the coastal delivery activities for the MMO in each marine area. The hub offices are supported by staff including a Marine Area manager, Marine Officers and administrative support staff. Marine Area boundaries will follow where possible the county boundaries used by the various IFCAs around the country. Given the number and difference in size of the IFCAs a slight variation is needed in the East in order to create an effective Eastern region with the correct balance of MMO delivery work.
