Abstract

This survey was an intertidal and shallow sublittoral survey in Dorset as part of a larger biotope mapping project. The purpose was to collect baseline information for marine conservation and spatial planning.

Lineage

Survey method for the biotope mapping was based on a Phase 1+ biotope mapping survey conducted by Countryside Council for Wales (CCW). Detailed species lists for most biotopes were done, based on an abundance scale. Biotope maps are digitised using GIS software. Geo-referenced photographs are available for all survey sites. Survey was initiated by Dorset Wildlife Trust in January 2009 and will continue until 2013 or until full coverage of Dorset intertidal is achieved.
