Abstract

Scallop monitoring at Lundy carried out by Chris Mandry from North Devon. The numbers of scallops (over 100mm) collected over a 20 minute period (observations per minute) whilst Scuba diving where recorded each year between 1978 and 2009. Volunteer records of Scallops Monitoring at Lundy between 1978 and 2009. 202 monitoring divers were undertaken between a depth range of 19.1 and 29.9m. Yearly figures are given in observations per dive/ per minute.

Lineage

No data available for 1984, 1985 and 2005. Current, depth and underwater visibility all influence observation. All observations were undertaken by the same divers. An exercise to show the discrepancies was undertaken by Keith Hiscock and Chris Mandry on 14/10/2007 at 15:30BST. Both divers operated within physical contact distance, depth 21.8m, dive time 35 minutes. Keith Hiscock recorded 14 scallops, Chris Mandry recorded 44 scallops.
