1977 - 1977 Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) 1977 Eastern Irish Sea Groundfish Survey Catch Data - Silver Star Time Series
A series of groundfish surveys were carried out on the fishing vessel Silver Star from 1976 to 1991 in the eastern Irish Sea. Fishing took place using a Boris Goshawk trawl towed for an hour. This data is from the 3 surveys carried out during 1977. Numbers at length by centimetre of the main commercial fish species are recorded. Station positions by area are recorded.

Three cruises were carried out in 1977: - **Silver Star 01/77 (28th February - 25th March)** Work commenced on 28th February and 13 hauls were made in the next three days. Strong winds prevented fishing until 6th March when 3 trawl hauls were carried out. The vessel travelled to Douglas on 12 March and during the next two days 6 hauls were completed. Work was abandoned on the 15th when the vessel was called by the harbour master to assist in towing a disabled vessel in heavy swells and rising winds. Further trawls were delayed due to this increasingly bad weather, but eventually conditions moderated enough that work could continue on the 18th March for the next seven days. - **Silver Star 02/77 (11th June - 30th June)** Trawling began on the 1st June and the groundfish survey of the Conwy sector, consisting of 16 hauls, were completed by 4th June. The vessel sailed to Douglas on 8th June and trawling continued every day (with the exception of the 10th) until the 14th. The remaining hauls of the groundfish survey (in Whitehaven) were completed between the 17th-20th June. - **Silver Star 03/77 (8th October - 21st October)** The survey began at Conwy on the 19th October and continued until 23rd October with all but one of the stations being sampled. The vessel then travelled to the Isle of Man, where despite interruptions by gales, 18 stations were sampled.
