2010 Defra MB0106 Wind Farms Round 3 Proposed Zones
This map identifies areas that offer potential development opportunities for future offshore wind farms. For further information about how this map was derived please refer to the Round 3 map guide. Notes: 1. This layer represents The Crown Estate's present view of locations for potential zones for the development of offshore wind farms. 2. It will be subject to revision. 3. The zones do not in any way reflect the output of BERR's SEA.

The identification of Round 3 Zones is the first use of the MaRS GIS tool within The Crown Estate business environment. Details of the aim, objectives and background to MaRS can be found on The Crown Estate website at www.thecrownestate.co.uk/mars. The development and use of MaRS is ongoing with a continual management of the methodology and the approach to its application for planning offshore activity. MaRS has been applied as a decision support tool to help identify zones at a national level that have potential for the development of Round 3 offshore wind farms. This shapefile is iteration 2 of the Round 3 map. It is recognised that regional and local considerations need to be further researched during subsequent planning stages and will be fundamental to site selection. MaRS has the capability to carry out this application and will be used in support of detailed site selection within each zone.
