2011-Present Southern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority Annual Portland Mussel Survey

Abstract

Drop down camera footage was used to assess the location of seed mussel beds at the Shambles in the Portland to Studland cSAC. Observations from film footage were used to map beds using MapInfo gis software. This data, DORIS data and historical fishing effort data, were used to define two areas available to the fishery within the cSAC.

Lineage

The dataset contains video data from drop down camera surveys, mussel bed density and condition and associated species. The video data was processed by observations of species being plotted into MapInfo GIS software to give the boundaries of the mussel beds in the area. This in turn was used to determine two areas within the Portland to Studland cSAC where fishing activity would be allowed to continue.
