Chester Archaeological Period Characterisations: Post Medieval
The Chester Archaeological Period Characterisations were created as part of the Chester Urban Archaeological Database (UAD) Project and encompass the Chester non parish area and civil parishes of Chester Castle and Great Boughton. The Chester Archaeological Period Characterisations were based primarily on archaeological evidence, rather than on the relatively recent historic urban development and are deliberately a broad brush characterisation for the given period. The characterisation for the post medieval period includes a consideration of significant changes to the city between the period 1540 and 1799.
