List of Registered Private Water Supplies that fall under The Private Water Supplies Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009, as amended in 2010. The Drinking Water Inspectorate has a regulatory responsibility for private water supplies which are used for drinking, cooking, food preparation or other domestic purposes (including personal hygiene); or those used in commercial food production: the manufacture, processing, preservation, or marketing of food or drink for human consumption. Private water supplies to single domestic dwellings are not required to be monitored under the 2009 Regulations.

The data displayed in Spatial NI is provided on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. It shows the locations of registered Private Water Supplies (PWSs), held by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), and that fall under The Private Water Supplies Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009 (as amended in 2010). A PWS will only fall under DWI's remit if the water supply is available to members of the public such as at a B&B, restaurant, hospital, etc, or if it is being used in the production of food or drink, or if it is supplying more than one household (property). New PWSs are normally notified to us through the Environmental Health Department of the Local Council. Owners of these supplies then complete a registration form and submit it to DWI. It is important to note that Private Water Supplies which supply: (a) single dwellings fall under the remit of the local councils and (b) dairy farms fall under the remit of the Quality Assurance Branch of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. We have tried to ensure the data presented is as accurate as possible at the time of publication. However, the information we hold can change at any time, as new supplies are registered and old ones drop off. You must not, therefore, rely solely on data viewed or printed from Spatial NI if you are carrying out a survey or any environmental consultancy work.
