1985 - 1985 Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) 1985 Eastern Irish Sea Groundfish Survey Catch Data - Silver Star Time Series
A series of groundfish surveys were carried out on the fishing vessel Silver Star from 1976 to 1991 in the eastern Irish Sea. Fishing took place using a Boris Goshawk trawl towed for an hour. This data is from the 3 surveys carried out in 1985. Numbers at length by centimetre of the main commercial fish species are recorded. Station positions by area are recorded. A summary table is included for cruises 02/85 and 03/85 containing catch data for all other species.

Three cruises were carried out in 1985: - **Silver Star 01/85 (14th March - 24th March)** Staff travelled to Conwy on the 13th, but strong to gale northerly winds delayed commencement of the survey until the 17th. Work continued for four days, however, two further days of work were postponed with a return of onshore winds. The final two days work were completed successfully on the 23rd and 24th March. In total, 24 groundfish survey hauls were successfully carried out, only one having to be repeated after a split developed in the codend cover. - **Silver Star 02/85 (17th June - 22nd June)** The survey commenced on the 17th June, during the next six days favourable weather conditions allowed the survey to continue and work was completed on 22nd June. All 24 groundfish surveys were successfully carried out. - **Silver Star 03/85 (21st October - 27th October)** Work commenced on the 21st October with favourable weather conditions lasting four days. However, on the 25th strong winds forced the vessel to return to port before reaching the fishing area. Trawling resumed on the 26th and the rest of the work was completed during the following two days. A total of 24 groundfish survey hauls were successfully carried out.
