During the late 1800's until early 1980s, surveys and sampling were undertaken around Lundy to record, collect, identify and catalogue the marine fauna. The specialists compiling the lists included the species that had previously been catalogued, especially during the late 1940s by Professor Leslie Harvey. The separate lists were published in the Annual Report of the Lundy Field Society. A review and bibliography was prepared in 2005 by Robert Irving and publications continue to be produced, mainly for Natural England and published in their report series, and often as papers in the Journal of the Lundy Field Society.
