Fishing for razor clams (Ensis spp.) within the Scottish zone is prohibited. For a trial period, the Scottish Government will authorise (under Article 43 of EC Regulation No. 850/1998 and article 4(2) of Scottish SI 2017 No. 419) electrofishing for razor clams (Ensis spp.) in certain areas around Scotland for scientific research.

Trial areas are derived from the recognised ICES statistical subrectangles (ninth of a standard statistical rectangle). Subrectangles were clipped to mean low water spring (MLWS) with adjustments agreed with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to reduce potential impacts on MPA network sites or priority marine features. MLWS was transformed to WGS84 using transformation EPSG:1314.
