This dataset is an archive of data relevant to the old Bathing Water Directive (76/160/EEC) and won't be updated now the directive is no longer in force. For the latest bathing water quality information please see environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/. Every week during the bathing season (15 May to 30 September 1988-2014), the Environment Agency took samples from over 400 coastal and inland designated bathing waters. These samples were analysed against the standards laid out in the 1976 European Bathing Water Directive and published online. Bathing waters are monitored every week throughout the Bathing Season (15 May to 30 September). Samples are loaded into STARLIMS and analysed by the National Laboratory Service and loaded into MIDAS and stored in Water Information Management System (WIMS). Microbiological sample and monitoring data are extracted from the Water Information Management System (WIMS) into the UK Master Compliance Database to assess against standards laid out in the European Bathing Water Directive
