Lineage

This dataset was digitised from a paper map that was based on work by MacVean and Ratcliffe (1964). This has subsequently been developed and updated - some of the boundary lines may have been drawn without any evidence/reference to known sources. The zone used in the Native Woodland Survey of Scotland (NWSS) is based on the work by MacVean and Ratcliffe (1964) - the reference for this O’Sullivan. P. E., (1977). Vegetation history and the native pinewoods. In: Native Pinewoods of Scotland, Proceedings of Aviemore Symposium. Eds: Bunce, R. G. H and Jeffers, J. N. R. Cambridge. Originally digitised by Forest Research, for the purposes of the NWSS a 1km buffer has been added. Any Scots Pine within this zone should be regarded as native. Outwith the pinewood zone, Scots Pine should be regarded as non-native. Dataset Attributes: HECTARES Hectare Field NAME "Pinewood Zone"
