Abstract

Boundaries of land captured as part of small woodland management plan processing. The small woodland management plan template has been created to help encourage and support owners of small woodlands to bring them into sustainable management consistent with the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS). The template is a condensed version of the full management plan but with some key differences both in terms of content and output. In summary the small woodland management plan; o Can be used for any woodland size but is suited to woodland of ten hectares and under; o For woodlands of ten hectares and under it can be used to access the new Rural Development Programme, i.e. meet the pre-requisite under the new Countryside Stewardship (CS) to have an FC approved management plan in place; o Does not attract grant, there is no financial incentive available; o Can provide ten year felling permission, based on the information provided under section 8 of the template (there is no separate plan of operations); and o Helps bring more woodland into UKFS compliant management.
