Abstract

OS MasterMap® Highways Network is the most complete, detailed and accurate navigable road network dataset for Great Britain. It records the dimensions and accessibility of roads. For vehicle routing and navigation software providers, this data gives you all you need to get your users safely to their destinations: turn, height, weight and width restrictions – and even bollards and traffic calming. Our asset management information allows highways teams to improve planning schemes in the office, avoiding unnecessary site visits. It can also identify potentially difficult locations, so you can organise required permits in good time. All the details your teams need are right at their fingertips. If a water leak is reported, our data allows you to find the property, street and nearest hydrant so the impact on nearby properties is assessed, while determining the risk to other assets.

The data is currently sourced from three sources: 1. OS Large Scale Content We've provided national coverage of the Road Network and the associated attribution and detailed routing information. This covers all of Great Britain. 2. National Street Gazetteer GeoPlace provides Ordnance Survey with the National Street Gazetteer for England and Wales. The National Street Gazetteer is created through the compiling of 174 Local Street Gazetteers (LSGs) and the Trunk Road Street Gazetteer (TRSG). The TRSG provides the authoritative information about the road and path network. 3. Scottish Street Gazetteer Improvement Service provides Ordnance Survey with the Scottish Street Gazetteer, which is created through compiling local street gazetteers in Scotland.

OS MasterMap Highways Network extends the INSPIRE specification to include the additional properties of required by BS 7666-1:2006 defined within the NSG Data Transfer Format (DTF) and Scottish DTF (SDTF) to ensure that conformance to both INSPIRE and BS7666-1:2006 can be achieved. It is currently only available in British National Grid.
