Source Material: The previous document (Countryside Appraisal of Nottinghamshire) was used as a starting point. Source Material: ordnance survey maps (1:50,000), aerial photography 2009, landform, floodzones, ecological landscape and heritage information, Regional & National Landscape Character Areas. Processes: 1. Identified patterns in physiography, ground type, settlement pattern and land cover to map distinct units of character at county scale called Landscape Description Units (LDUs). 2. Interpretation of GIS data (combining source material & 1) to further define discrete landscape character units. 3. Field visits and photographic evidence. 4. Combine 1 - 3 to define Landscape Policy Zones (Geographic area and descriptions). Method of Updating: To be reviewed as and when needed. However, may be required following adoption of the Local Plan Preferred Options Document as this includes revisions to the urban boundary (2014).
