Major Road Noise Contours Lden Round 1
Data indicating the level of noise according to the strategic noise mapping of major road sources within areas with a population of at least 250,000 people (agglomerations) and along major traffic routes with more than 6,000,000 vehicle passages per year. Lden indicates a 24 hour annual average noise level with separate weightings for the evening and night periods. This data is a product of the strategic noise mapping analysis undertaken to meet the requirements of the Environmental Noise Directive (Directive 2002/49/EC).

Noise level information has been determined by strategic noise mapping using national calculation methods and various input information. The calculations produced noise level results on a 10m grid at a receptor height of 4m above ground, as required by the Environmental Noise Directive and associated Regulations. The data presented is modelled data, no actual noise measurements have been made in the production of these strategic maps. Input data included information such OS MasterMap OS Integrated Transport Network (ITN), Scottish Executive's Road Information System (SERIS) and the Transport Model for Scotland. Traffic flows and vehicle type data were also considered. The output noise raster grid was processed in ArcGIS to create noise levels based on Lden classes.
