Title

Tree canopy data derived from LiDAR data for South West England, 2013

Abstract

The data describe vegetation outlines and tree tops above 1m in height as polylines and points. Data have been processed from a digital terrain model (DTM) and digital surface model (DSM), converted from raw LiDAR data. The LiDAR dataset was acquired for Cornwall and Devon (all the land west of Exmouth) during the months of July and August 2013. The data were created as part of the Tellus South West project. Lineage

Data was downloaded in 25km squares and subdivided into a 5 x 5 grid for processing. The digital terrain model (DTM) was then subtracted from the digital surface model (DSM) to provide a Canopy Height Model (CHM) at the same 1m resolution. The data were then processed in R to provide canopy outlines for vegetation above 1m in height using the Forest Tools toolbox. Data was then filtered to exclude littoral, sub-littoral, and urban environments. However these data still exist and can be provided if requested.
