Quality and validity

Lineage

Under the Marine and Coastal Protection Act 2009 it is the responsibility of the MMO to respond to marine emergency incidents. The MMO have detailed their processes in the Marine Pollution Contingency Plan (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/448817/Marine_Pollution_Contingency_Plan.pdf), please refer to this document for further information. The MMO prioritise emergency incidents and work closely with other relevant organisations to ensure that all incidents are dealt with as quickly as possible to a satisfactory conclusion. All notified incidents are recorded for both historical data and continuous improvement purposes. This enables MMO to identify specific areas of concern and to respond accordingly with other relevant authorities such as Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Natural England and Environment Agency.
