2011 Commercial Fishing: Important areas for fixed salmon netting around Grampian
In order to better understand the nature, extent and intensity of interactions amongst coastal users, Marine Scotland asked the Local Coastal Partnerships to collect spatial data not already represented in national datasets. This map shows important areas for fixed salmon netting around Grampian. It was created by the East Grampian Local Coastal Partnership, and covers the area of sea out to 12 miles. The source was from a local fishermen: one skipper was interviewed, representing the very South of the Region (Gourdon). The fisherman drew on a map areas important to him. The data set is far from complete and consultation with a larger more representative sample size of fishermen is strongly advised.

This dataset was collected by the East Grampian Coastal Partnership who interviewed one salmon netting association and mapped the location of the activity directly into UDIG GIS with the contributor. No social or economic questions were asked. The data was then 'cleansed' by Marine Atlas Consultants (commissioned by the Scottish Coastal Forum) - the projection was changed from BNG to WGS86, a table was attributed retrospectively with the interviewer to ensure it complies with Quality Assurance SOPs, MEDIN data standards (as best as possible), and confidence levels assigned using criteria based on "MMO checklist to assess the quality of evidence". This best practice is detailed in a final report to the EGCP and the SCF. If any sensitive species or biotope records are present within this dataset, they will have been removed. If you wish to request access to sensitive species records, please contact the metadata contact. The UK Sensitive Species list has been agreed by UK statutory bodies and relevant experts. It can be viewed here https://docs.nbnatlas.org/sensitive-species-list/. Please note sensitive species lists can vary across the UK.
