Title

1989 - 1989 Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) 1989 Eastern Irish Sea Groundfish Survey Catch Data - Silver Star Time Series

Abstract

A series of groundfish surveys were carried out on the fishing vessel Silver Star from 1976 to 1991 in the eastern Irish Sea. Fishing took place using a Boris Goshawk trawl towed for an hour. This data is from the 2 surveys carried out in 1989. Numbers at length by centimetre of the main commercial fish species are recorded. Station positions by area are recorded. A summary table is included for cruises 01/89 and 02/89 containing catch data for all other species.

Lineage

Two cruises were carried out in 1989: - **Silver Star 01/89 (25th June - 3rd July)** Trawling began on the 25th June, bad weather conditions prevented work on the 27th, 29th June and 1st July. Survey was completed on 3rd July, all stations in the Conwy and Red Wharf Bay sectors were successfully completed, but due to the loss of three tows on 28th June, only one of the Liverpool Bay stations were completed. - **Silver Star 02/89 (23rd October - 8th November)** Between the 23rd and 27th October three days of the six day survey were completed. With the forecast of unsettled weather for at least three days and the arrival of unfavourable tides the survey was suspended until conditions improved. The remaining part of the survey was completed between November 5th and 8th. All 24 hauls were successfully completed.
