GeMS - Scottish Priority Marine Features (PMF)
Collation of species / habitat records contributing to the Geodatabase of Marine features adjacent to Scotland (GeMS). Records are attributed as to their qualification as protected features of protected areas within the Scottish MPA network. Where appropriate typical record details will include: status as Scottish Priority Marine Features or Annex II Species, scientific name, abundance details, date, date range, year, status, accuracy, determiner and details of where the records are sourced from and intellectual property ownership. Polygon area values in the HECTARES field are calculated using ETRS89-LAEA (EPSG:3035) using the standard centre of projection at 10° E, 52° N. Due to the complexity of the database we recommend using either the WMS version or the downloadable map packages which are preconfigured to show the data as it is intended. We are currently working to produce a QGIS / Geopackage version as well, once that is complete we will include the link in this document.

This feature class contains habitat point records that have been iteratively added on and since the initial creation of the dataset. Records are sourced from multiple data owners, and provided for addition to the dataset by either NatureScot or Joint Nature Conservation Committee. Intellectual Property Ownership of individual records is varied. Records were originally collected for a variety of purposes and record collection was done through a variety of methodologies. No records were originally collected with the specific purpose of inclusion within this collation; the dataset accepts records relevant to Priority Marine Features, MPA Search Features and Annex I habitat records. Records have had a standardised data structure applied, and as such may not include all the attributes available within their original source.
