Cranfield University - LandIS
NATMAP 1000 is a series based, 1km2 grid vector spatial data set covering the whole of Wales and England. (relative % of soil series flattened in a table for easy database querying)
This product is useful for anyone wanting a general understanding of the soil series within a region, for those who are not too concerned with actual line work, but only require the overall breakdown of soils within their area.

The original NATMAP vector map was summarized onto a 1km grid using the TabulateArea functionality in ArcGIS to give the area of each soil association in a 1km grid. This was then combined with the NATMAPassociations table to calculate the proportion of each series in the 1km square. It must be noted that the proportion of series within each soil association is a vague estimate and therefore the proportions of series within any 1km square is also only an estimate
. The 1km summary data was then used to compose the 2km and 5km summaries.
