MMO1051 Future Fisheries Trends Average Landings Values 2007 - 2011
Data layer of average landings value(2007 to 2011) for the under-15m and over-15m fleets for all gear types developed for the Future Trends in Fishing and Aquaculture in the South Inshore and Offshore Marine Plan Areas (MMO Project No. 1051) by ABPmer. The under-15m fishing data was derived from the MCZ Fisheries Model grid output for 2007 to 2010 (updated to 2011 from MMO landings data) and the over-15m fishing data was derived from the VMS sub-ICES rectangle data provided by MMO. Data outputs from MMO 1051 Fishing and Aquaculture trends project. The aim of the project was to provide an analysis of fishing and aquaculture trends in England using currently available evidence. This will be used in the development of scenarios for marine plans which span 20 years and complement trends information relating to the other listed Marine Policy Statement sectors. The project will identify key knowledge gaps and make recommendations on how the evidence base for fisheries trends could be improved for marine planning.

Data layer contains data on average landings value for the years 2007 - 2011 as follows; Gear groupings for under 15m fleet Gear groupings for over 15m fleet Totals for each gear group for under and over15m fleets Grand total for all gear groups and vessel lengths For full details see report "MMO (2013) Future trends in Fishing and Aquaculture in the South Inshore and Offshore Marine Plan Areas. A report produced for the Marine Management Organisation, pp 2. MMO Project No: 1051." Caveats: - This baseline data covers a limited timeframe. - It was not possible within the timescale of the study to determine how the Relative Effort (RE) value contained in the MCZ model was calculated, nor how it related to the number of vessels or value of landings. - The MCZ Fisheries Model data lacked metadata and a a result a validation exercise had to be conducted (reference the report for further information). - Validation provided confidence in the use of the MCZ Fisheries Model in the baseline, however, with the caveat that the nets category is not well represented in the MCZ model and that the hand fishing category is not included at all, which affects the total value for the under-15m fleet for ICES rectangle 30F0, in particular. - Data is very sparse in the NIFDL dataset in the area to the south of the Isle of Wight and also across the entire South Marine Plan Offshore Area (where the over-15m fleet tends to fish), therefore, the data layers for the over-15m fleet do not compare well. - The report should be reviewed to ensure the data is used in the correct context.
