2006 - 2006 Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) Fisheries Science Partnership - Yorkshire Coast Velvet Crab Survey
Velvet FSP
The fishing vessels *Hollie J* and *Magdalene Ann* were chartered in June 2006 to carry out a potting survey for velvet crabs in the area from Flamborough Head to North of Spurn Point (Bridlington Bay, North Sea, UK) as part of the Fisheries Science Partnership programme 2006/07. The primary objective was to plot the spatial distribution of catch rates of macro crustaceans in the mixed fishery of Bridlington bay. Data are the numbers of crustacea ( *Necora puber, Cancer pagurus and Homarus gammarus* ) by trap and size distributions of velvet crabs ( *Necora Puber* ).

Target fishing positions were spread throughout the survey area, but potential gear conflicts confined most stations to a band 6 to 12 miles off the coast. The survey took place in June when catch rates of velvet swimming crabs were beginning to increase after a delayed start to the season.
