1984 - 1984 Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) 1984 Eastern Irish Sea Groundfish Survey Catch Data - Silver Star Time Series
A series of groundfish surveys were carried out on the fishing vessel Silver Star from 1976 to 1991 in the eastern Irish Sea. Fishing took place using a Boris Goshawk trawl towed for an hour. This data is from the 3 surveys carried out in 1984. Numbers at length by centimetre of the main commercial fish species are recorded. Station positions by area are recorded. A summary table is included for cruises 02/84 and 03/84 containing catch data for all other species.

Three cruises were carried out in 1984: - **Silver Star 01/84 (11th March - 19th March)** Staff travelled to Conwy on 10th March, with work commencing on the 11th. However, North East winds prevented any work from being carried out during the following three days, after which moderating winds allowed work to recommence on 15th. The rest of the survey was completed in the following five days. 24 groundfish hauls were successfully completed. - **Silver Star 02/84 (23rd June - 03rd July)** Westerly winds hindered the progress of this survey, with many days work being lost due to unsuitable conditions. A total of ten days were required in order to complete the 6 day survey. - **Silver Star 03/84 (23rd October - 06th November)** Staff sailed to Conwy on 17th October, but due to strong to gale westerly winds work was not commenced until 23rd October, when one day's work was carried out in the Red Wharf Bay. Work was again delayed because of weather until the 31st October, the remaining hauls were completed thoughout the next seven days, two of which were lost due to unsuitable conditions. A total of 24 stations were completed successfully without any gear damage.
