Sand within about 20m of the rock was colonised by thick filamentous brown algae with common Arenicola casts. In the centre of the bay, deeper sand had sparser filamentous algae and Lanice. Thick Zostera marina patches at 4.5m bcd mixed with algae on cobbles and pebbles. Some areas were dominated by kelp (Laminaria saccharina, Laminaria ochroleuca and Saccorhiza polyschides) and some areas were of sand with small pebbles colonised by Polyides rotundus, Gracilaria verrucosa and Ahnfeltia plicata. Conspicuous fauna included Anthopleura ballii, Gibbula magus and Anemonia viridis. All recorded as a single habitat. Boulders were dominated by large algae, including Callophyllis, Kallymenia, Halopteris and Dictyopteris, with rare Laminaria hyperborea, and pebbles by a wide range of small foliose and encrusting algae and encrusting bryozoa.
