The proposed works include the removal of the existing signalised junctions and replacing with a double roundabout and Puffin crossings.
Town End junction is located in the centre of Pontefract. The junction has been signalised for at least the last 17 years along with modifications during this period, and serves the A645 and A639 roads.
The junction during peak periods is heavily congested with long queues. Prior to the signalisation of the junction it was formally a double roundabout (1970s to 1997).
The roads are subject to a 30mph speed limit with road lighting provided throughout. The existing traffic signals incorporate pedestrian facilities with various convoluted routes through the junctions.
Town End has up to 30,000 vehicle movement per day. The works will need to be managed to minimise disruption to both road users and pedestrian traffic as well as maintaining access to the business and residential properties. |
