The Scottish Government commissioned a LiDAR survey along parts of Scotland’s coast to improve the topographic data available for monitoring coastal changes, inform Coastal Change Adaptation Plans and inform modelling coastal and surface water flood risk. The aerial survey was carried out by Fugro Ltd. between February and March 2026 and coincided with low tides. The point cloud data was captured above the minimum specified requirement of 10 points per square metre (10 ppm) (and was routinely closer to 16ppm) and processed using the OSGM15 geoid model, OSTN15 horizontal transformation and Newlyn datum. Each of the coastal survey sections had ground control areas with RMSE values from 0.009m to 0.049m. Three types of datasets are provided, including a point cloud (LAZ), a 50 cm resolution Digital Surface Model and 50cm Digital Terrain Model, derived from the point cloud. The total area captured was approximately 792 km².
