These surfaces were noteable for the rich sponge and bryozoan assemblage and for the large number of Caryophyllia smithii and some ?C. inornata. The ?Caryophyllia inornata were distinguished as more 'compact' and were generally a green brown colour. Many C. smithii were small. Larger C. smithii were colonised by Pyrgoma anglium. Many of the encrusting sponges in the cave and other shaded areas were different colours of a 'flat Dysidea-like' sponge previously given this description at Lundy. These were very rich overhang and cave communities. NOTE: Substratum % data are converted from the original substratum 1-3 scoring system.
