A few foliose algae were recorded, including Odonthalia dentata, Dilsea carnosa, Plocamium cartilagineum and Dictyota dichotoma. The bedrock was rather barren and smooth in places, with occasional boulders or cobbles on the surface. The bedrock was even and undulating. There was a poor fauna, with Pomatoceros sp. abundant on vertical surfaces and Alcyonidium diaphanum frequent on horizontal surfaces.

The rock consisted of vertical surfaces and ledges with large and small crevices. Alaria esculenta was abundant in this zone and extended into the midshore region. Mytilus edulis was abundant on the higher ledges of this zone. Pink encrusting algae were abundant. Very few foliose algae were observed.
