Spreadsheet containing preliminary timeline of the events occurring across the 1980s and 1990s when a series of lahars slowly destroyed the community of El Viejo Palmar, Retalhuleu. Events include both socio-political events occurring in Guatemala in the 18th and 19th centuries and the lahars that descended from Volcán Santiaguito/Santa Maria during the 1980s and 1990s. These lahars increasingly affected the community and ultimately provoked the relocation of its people to El Nuevo Palmar. This preliminary timeline was created as part of Work Package 2.1 of the GCRF-funded project, "Ixchel: Building understanding of the physical, cultural and socio-economic drivers of risk for strengthening resilience in the Guatemalan cordillera" This work package was dedicated to 3 case studies of communities across the Guatemalan cordillera affected by geophysical hazards whose impacts were compounded by socio-economic and political factors: Lahars affecting El Viejo Palmar (Retalhuleu), mudflows over Panabaj (2005), and eruption of Volcán de Fuego (2018).
