Electron microprobe analyses (glass and mineral chemistry) and XRF whole-rock compositional analyses from young volcanic rock samples from Ruang volcano, Indonesia Data provided include sample names, geographic coordinates and brief contextual and stratigraphic descriptions, alongside geochemical analyses provided with sample identifiers. All samples were collected during fieldwork in 2025 following the 2024 eruption of Ruang volcano, exposing previously undocumented stratigraphy. Sampling targeted young volcanic rocks including those of the 2024 eruption and several inferred historical eruption deposits. Electron microprobe analyses were undertaken at Bristol University on polished mounts of separated pumice grains from each analysed sample, targeting phenocrysts and groundmass glass, using a JEOL JXA8530F EPMA. Samples were carbon coated prior to analysis. The instrument was calibrated prior to each run using a range of mineral standards. EPMA data are provided with raw totals and have not been normalised. Analyses with high or low totals have been removed (97-102wt%; except for allowing totals to 96 wt% for hornblende, and retaining 92 wt% for melt inclusion glass analyses). Inferred mineral types are indicated in a separate column within the spreadsheet. XRF was conducted on cleaned and picked samples of juvenile pumice grains (selected as the dominant vesicular grain type based on visual characteristics), to provide whole-rock compositions. Samples were crushed and powdered and analysed for major and trace element compositions at the University of Edinburgh, calibrated using a range of internal and reference material volcanic standards. The data provide insights into the chemistry and nature of magmas erupted from Ruang volcano in recent time (likely within the past few centuries, and can be used to assess the development of this magma system.
