Summary

This survey was undertaken by Cefas as part of the North Sea Groundfish Survey, Qtr 3 (FSS: IBTS3E; NSGFS);

75 core trawl stations are completed annually, to provide distribution and stock composition estimates for fish species. Station, catch, length (all species) and biological data (selected species) are collected using research vessels and GOV trawls. Benthic catches are also recorded. These annual surveys (ongoing) are carried out in support of EU data regulations and as part of the International Bottom Trawl survey. Additional aims include collection of water temperature, salinity and litter data.

Survey took place between 14/08/1998 and 14/09/1998 on Cirolana

  • Benthic Sampling Gear Jennings 2m Beam Trawl Standard spec.
  • Bottle Casts Niskin bottles Caesium sampling from 2 bottle cast
  • Bottle Casts Niskin bottles IBTS standard cast
  • Otter Trawl GOV Long Wing 36/47 Standard IYFS Spec.
  • Pumped Samples Deck Hose Caesium sampling

Survey operations were undertaken on 200 stations

162 different species were caught on this survey
