A dense algal understory consisted mainly of Ceramium spp, Palmaria palmata, Cladostephus spongiosus, Dictyota dichotoma and Corallinaceae. Laurencia pinnitafida was frequent on the vertical faces and in the upper reaches of the zone. Callithamnion tetricum, Plumaria elegans and Balanus perforatus were found mainly on overhangs. Occasional Patella spp were also present.

Large limestone boulders dominated by Fucus serratus with frequent Laminaria spp. Red algal understorey was moderate though not diverse. Laurencia pinnatifida and Lomentaria articulata formed a turf on vertical faces. Overhangs were rich in Plumaria elegans with sponges and Balanus perforatus. Gastropods were frequent throughout. Underboulder communities were dominated by decapods and gammarids.

Pools were shallow with silted mudstone bedrock and boulders. Dominant algal species included Fucus serratus, Ceramium spp., Dictyota dichotoma, Lomentaria articulata, corrallinaceae and Laminaria spp. Fauna was dominated by Palaemon serratus with some piddocks. Underboulder communities were poor, consisting mainly of decapods and spirorbidae.
