This dataset is a subset of the "WFD Classification Status Cycle 2" product and contains classification data for the sub element Specific Pollutants (abbreviated to SP) as used in the classification for Ecological Status for the water framework directive (WFD). The data is presented as a row per individual WFD water body. The UK was responsible for developing Environmental Quality Standards (EQS's) for SPs. These are defined as substances that can have a harmful effect on biological quality, and include substances commonly encountered when issuing environmental permits or consents as well as substances listed under earlier EU Directives such as List II under the Dangerous Substances Directive. The sub element SP classification is based on the individual SP elements using a one out all out process. This means if a single SP element is moderate then the SP sub element classification will also be moderate. SP elements are classed as either High or Moderate.
