The d11B and B/Ca and Raman spectra analysis of primary (unaltered) coral aragonite and secondary aragonite and calcite cements in Hawaiian fossil corals. d11B and B/Ca are influenced by CaCO3 formation pH and conditions. Raman spectra indicate CaCO3 polymorph and the full width half maxima of the Raman v1band is increased by disorder around the carbonate group in the CaCO3 lattice. Fossil samples were collected during IODP 389 (2023) and during pre-expedition sampling by submersible (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.gca.2007.07.026). Data were collected to research the formation conditions (pH and dissolved inorganic carbon) of secondary cements in fossil coral skeletons and to calculate the effect of cement inclusion on analyses of primary coral. Data were collected by Nicola Allison and Alice Sinclair.
