Data from an intertidal survey of Loch Laxford in November 2001. Intertidal biotopes were mapped in accordance with the standardised methodology from Hiscock (1996), Conner, et al. (1997) and Wyn, et al. (2000). Target notes were made at intervals along the shore and representative photographs and video were taken.
Nearshore boat survey techniques were used to cover the vast majority of the shore. A team of two surveyors obtained access to the shore, to undertake the investigation necessary to determine the biotopes present and their distribution (where possible).
Loch Laxford was submitted to the European Commission as a candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC) under the European Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC). It is an excellent, and only, example of a large and shallow inlet and bay situated on the west coast of mainland Scotland.
