Summary

A Town or Village Green is land over which a significant number of inhabitants of any locality have indulged as of right in lawful sports and pastimes on the land for a period of at least 20 years. Commons are areas of land, usually in private ownership, which are subject to rights held by other individuals, for example the right for others to graze animals, collect firewood etc., over that land. These “rights of common” usually originate from local custom.
