Habitat characterised by dense Laminaria hyperborea, Laminaria digitata, with occasional Laminaria saccharina and Alaria esculenta. Abundant Echinus esculentus resulting in rocks being heavily grazed. Moderate red algal abundance on stipes. Rocks had near 100% covering of pink/red crusts. Moderately diverse epifauna but low abundance.

Patches of Laurencia pinnatifida and Chondrus crispus at top of zone. Sheets of Halichondria panicea frequent, with Halisarca dujardini also frequent, especially amongst kelp holdfasts.
