Young fucoids and red algae were predominant, with Balanus balanoides, Patella vulgata and some sponges in damper areas. Mytilus edulis were smaller here than those found higher up the shore. Rock pool species included Hyale nilssoni, Apherusa jurinei and Celleporina hassali.

This area was dominated by barnacles, primarily Balanus balanoides and upper shore Patella vulgata, with a sparse covering of Fucus vesiculosus. Occasional clumps of small Mytilus edulis were present.
