Summary

The Council is required by Government to produce a Brownfield Land Register. The purpose of the register is to identify suitable brownfield sites that are available for housing development or housing led mixed use development. Brownfield land is previously developed land, normally in the urban area, although occasionally previously developed land can be found in the countryside.

The sites on the register are considered to be suitable, available and achievable for residential development in line with the criteria set out in The Town and Country Planning (Brownfield Land Register) Regulations 2017.

The definition of previously developed land is set out in the National Planning Policy Framework.
