One folder of images taken during field visit to Weng’an Nanbao phosphate quarry, and a publication arising from this trip. Photographs document early Ediacaran microfossil specimens and sedimentary rocks within the Doushantuo Formation of South China, as expressed at the classic Nanbao Quarry Weng’an locality. Nanbao is an active phosphate mine, and our visit was conducted with the permission of the quarry operators. The fossil specimens are largely acritarchs and ‘fossil embryos’ from the phosphorite deposits. Data result from NERC grant NE/L011409/2 Constraining the origins of the Metazoa: Insights from ichnology, palaeoecology and taphonomy. Photographs were taken to document fossil specimens and sedimentary context for the Doushantuo Formation fossil embryos, considered by some to be candidates for the oldest metazoan fossils.
