There are 15 conservation areas in the Borough, which are designated under the powers given to local authorities by Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. The legislation requires local authorities to keep designations under review, which Ipswich does on an ongoing basis and at 5 yearly (quinquennial) intervals.
